It is difficult to diagnose your problem with the information that you have provided. Have you checked the FAQ at IBM.com? If not click here.
It sounds like you might have a hardware problem. However, if you download files without scanning for viruses, you could contract one that could wipe sector zero of your hard drive. Though you said that you cannot turn it on, so.....
