I was wondering what the best type of memory is to get for a computer i am building? is it ddr or dimm? exactly what is dimm??? thanx

DIMM: Dual In-line Memory Module; a small circuit board that can hold a group of memory chips. A DIMM is capable of transferring 64 bits instead of the 32 bits each SIMM can handle. Pentium processors require a 64-bit path to memory so SIMMs must be installed two at a time as opposed to one DIMM at a time.
DDR: (Double Data Rate) or SDRAM II--The next generation of the current SDRAM. DDR finds its foundations on the same design core of SDRAM, yet adds advances to enhance its speed capabilities. As a result, DDR allows data to be sent on both the rising and falling edges of clock cycles in a data burst, delivering twice the bandwidth of standard SDRAMS. DDR essentially doubles the memory speed from SDRAMs without increasing the clock frequency. ----- I use 1GB of DDRAM and I'm pretty much a power user. |

Do they still make Mobo's that use DIMMs? I thought everything was DDR these days. I think you just pick out the best Mobo for your application and use the memory it calls for.

There shouldn't really be any choice, most motherboards will take either sd-ram (dimms) or DDR, the memory slots on the board will not take both, also, consider the FSB of your motherboard and processor, this will govern the speed of RAM you will be looking for.
