Question merging data from 2 hdd's

Im trying to take boot files & some other stuff on a old and slower 20 gig maxtor hdd and put it on a new 120 wd hdd. Then I want to take ~30gigs of data from an older 120 gig hdd and put that stuff on the new 120gig. There are program files on each hdd, should the programs and files be recognised and functional after this data merge? Has anyone had a similar experience?

thanx for any help

You're going to have trouble. Data moves between two hard drives easily. Not programs and especially not O/S files. You're ignoring registry concerns.

figured- tried it anyway and didnt work

- just as an after thought, is the some way to tell program files to search in a different drive for the files (i.e. to look in c: for prog. files that used to be on D: automatically)?

oh well

This is a kind of work for specialist. Not for the beginner such as questions here.

Even for the specialists all the programme files movement is impossible if not with a whole system.

Some programmes such as Opera (high independency?) works fine with some error at first run. Also some simple freewares fine. Even the drive incongrouity can be made use of positively. I have transfered some simple Browser (Donut using I.E.components) and Extracter and File-sharing soft etc., from Win98 drive (D to XP(C dragged and dropped.

(^^;(I'm also just a newbie for NT-line, but love adventures and adventurers like you who don't afraid system crash.)
