so your printer worked with your computer, you moved, and then it wouldn't work anymore? Did you make any changes to your machine before/right after you moved? You sure you plugged your printer in?

yea the printer is fine, i called the customer service dept for the printer b/c it's still under warranty. after they went through the printer stuff, they went through some files on my computer with me and had me read off my USB ports. i guess i'm missing the printer support and composite device. i don't know how they 'got lost' or whatever happens.

also if worst comes to worst, you can re-install the drivers

i have a brother printer, and the tech support person didn't mention anything about a chipset. would they have thought of that? my laptop's an HP.

how would i go about re-installing the drivers if i don't have any of the cd's that came with the laptop?

I think that your drivers for your printer are needed to be reinstalled.

i went to the hp website under help and support, or whatnot, and while it didn't have my exact problem it did have a problem relating to missing USB devices. it said after trying this and that (things i've already tried) that i should start up in safe mode, uninstall my USB port, and reinstall. that should bring the printing device and composite device back with it. sound normal?
