mobo wont post - killed cpu's
Hi there,
Client machine Asus A7V8X-MX XP2500 1 x 512 333 MHz PSU 400w My machine XP3200 Abit KV7 2 x 512 400 MHz PSU 400w I am a professional IT consultant and have been building machines for 15 years Ok the client machine was working but the client said it would sometimes restart or not boot (sporadic problems mostly on a particular user account – virus?) then it suddenly wouldn’t post/no beeps so I took out the hardware and tested it = ok Then I put my processor and a friend’s processor into the client’s machine and it still wouldn’t work I then put my processor back into my machine and mine won’t boot, it starts for a few seconds then turns off. This is what happens on all three machines now If I don’t install a processor the machine starts and stays on but obviously no post/beeps I bought a new processor (sempron 2500) and put that into my machine (it’s compatible with the mobo) and same thing happens (machine starts for a few seconds then turns off) I am f****** pis*** off So the client mobo must have an electrical problem which destroys CPU’s, that I get, but why does the destroyed CPU destroy other boards? Is this the mythically CPU virus that gets transferred to mobo bios from a CPU? I don’t think so but that’s why i'm posting You guys got any ideas? Is it new mobo's all round? I can’t test the sempron in a different machine in case the sempron has been f***** by my mobo which will just f*** another board Yes I have taken the battery out and shorted cmos It’s not the PSU Has anyone heard of such a thing? i have also tried a different on/off switch as mentioned in a previous thread to no avail |

(^^;?(I don't have heard of such a thing yet.)
Only a similar story I have heard of is which came first the-chicken-or-the-egg question. Probably nobody would know the truth. Maybe at first either or both of CPU and mobo short each other and become half-broken state and finally made killers both of them. If they were completely broken, it would be no problem. Perhaps both of corresponding socket pins may be shorted. |
