Modem can't be detected
Hey guys,
I have a problem with my modem. Currently I am using a Win98 on my pc. I had successfully installed the modem on the pc, however when I am starting to start dialing an internet connection. A message will appear saying that the modem can't be detected or has been turned off. I hope somebody can help me here. By the way it is an external modem and i tried using com1 and com2 ports to make it work. And I have checked in a different pc if the modem is still working, however the other pc runs on WinXp. Thanks in advance ![]() |

Modems are a pain in the %$%. I've always had those sort of problems with my modems. Check the IRQ assignments in the device manager and make sure it's happy. Some modems like certain IRQs like 7 or 9. Is it a plug and play modem?

External modems will not have their own IRQ, they use the IRQ of the serial port.
Was the modem originally on the PC that runs Windows XP? If so are there any special initialisation strings that were entered in the modem settings when it was first setup? |
