modem disc.

Something really wierd here...
My brother and I have our computers in my basement and there is a laptop upsatirs in my house...
I am connected to the net and every time someone turns the laptop on or off, i get disconnected
The comps are networked with the laptop, but the modem wire for laptop is connected to phone jack...

(keep in mind, the modem i am using is extremely cheap)
but still, why does this happen

Not quite sure I see what you're saying. So you are connected to the internet through the laptop's modem? Or is your computer hooked up to its own modem and phone jack?

My computer and laptop are not networked together, they both have their seperate modems and both connected to phone jack in wall.... When i am connected to the net on my comp and someone simple turns on or off the laptop, i get disconnected..

You only have one phone line? Do you get disconnected if someone else picks up the actual phone handset? I assume if you unplug the laptop from the phone jack, then turning it on and off doesn't cause any problems?

When you turn the laptop off and on, it is apparently sending a break on the phone line (like someone picking up an outlet). I don't know what you might do about that, other than just leave the laptop unplugged unless you're going on the internet with it. Since you can only access from one computer at a time anyway, this is probably the easiest thing to do.
