monitor = black screen
i have just bought a new computer (just the tower) from a mate who had no problem with it. i hooked it up to my monitor (which was working fine on my old computer) and at first everything was going ok on this new computer. but then 1 day i restarted it and then nothing shown up on the monitor.. just a black screen. the green light on the monitor is showing and the computer sounds like its booting ok just no output on the monitor. anybody know a solution to this problem?
thank you. |

Have you already connected it to another PC?

yes i used this monitor for my old pc fine, i just tried it with my new computer again and now i can get the bit up at the beggining (the writing that that comes up at the start when u 1st turn the computer on) and i prest f5 to try and put it into safe mode, but when i go any further than the setup page the screen will go blank again. so all that shows on the monitor is the writing at the start and then nothing else after. my computer does bleep when i turn it on as supposed 2 so i dont know what the hell is wrong with it. |

Sounds like once the new computer gets to the point that it loads the video driver it is set at a rate that is not supported by your monitor. Use the F8 key to boot into safe mode and turn the video and refresh rate down.

Then, you can get into the Bios? Change the Video settings within compass.
Investigate monitor datasheet and PC details. |

(^^;?(Describe more in detail and clearly.)
You can't boot from floppy? Then it is serious. Remove HDD and CDD and other peripherals, even surplus memory. Try CMOS clear and boot from floppy. |

Try taking it back your mates and trying it there and if it dose the chances are its the res size. Just change them down to 800 600 and turn all the grafix down. I dont think it is a virus but if it is then the damage is done....... no reversing that with a floppy viri scaner :P ... Hope i helped
