Motherboard with these specs
Hey guys,
I'm about to start upgrading my PC, but want to get a fair idea of which motherboard to get for it, could somebody please let me know if there are any boards which support the following? thanks! AMD Athlon 64 FX-53 support (or even FX-55 (unreleased)) PCI Xpress SATA RAID I want a board so I can upgrade to a better graphics car in the future, with the PCI Xpress, and Im probably getting 2x/4x WD Raptor 10'000rpm SATA Drives. And the FX-53 looks more than promising, I havent seen much about the FX-55, last I heard it wasnt released at the time. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks in Advance |

None yet, unsure when released (between Sept and Christmas I've heard.) http://www.anandtech.com/mb/showdoc.aspx?i=2075&p=2 is a preview of what is coming.
You're looking for cpus of the Socket 939 configuration, and the chipset is the nForce 4. As an aside: RAID 0 is fun to play with, and can improve performance for certain specific programs, but doesn't actually give much of an increase in performance in games and other real applications. (Anandtech has a great article on this) Its sort of a moot point, because the boards you want will have RAID support regardless, but it really shouldn't be a deal-breaker if RAID were not included.

OK Karsh, Thanks,
If a board dosent have SATA Raid, What should I do, I dont think 1 WD Raptor 74G will be enough, Is it possible to get SATA RAID PCI cards, or maybe got to the SCSI platform and get a 15'000rpm HDD? If I do build such a hardcore system, noise probably wont be an issu, cos I'll be playing games with the 7.1 sound up load. hehehehe Which would you reccomend (assuming that the SATA RAID on PCI is possible)? Cheers |

As I said, all the boards which will fit your description will have sata raid, so you won't need another option. If by chance there was one that did not have raid, you could just use different channels (74gb raptor on one, 300gb storage drive on another channel) no need for raid.
If you did want raid on a board that didnt come with built in support, there are controller cards you can buy for both sata and scsi raid. I would recommend sata, because scsi is much more expensive and gives relatively small perfomance gains, especially for a home user. Summary: You don't need to worry about it, the board of your dreams will have built in sata raid support. |
