New computer NOT booting...
I just purchased a barebone computer (came with case/power supply/mobo all preinstalled)
Its a PC-Chips M825 mobo with an ONBOARD AMD Duron processor (I specify onboard because one suggested fix is to reseat the processor, but I cannot do that) There is also onboard video/lan/4 usb 2.0 the works. It requires DDR 200/266 (pc2100) ram, which I purchased and installed right away. The issue is: WITH the ram installed, which booting the computer I get no beeps, no video, no keyboard lights of any sort. However, the cpu fan, cdrom, and harddrive (which I have also added) all power on correctly. WITHOUT the ram installed, I get the common 3 beep/you have no memory error, still no video/keyboard. Its brand new, building it for my little sister, I really dont want to have to send it back if theres a way around this. Any suggestions would be greatly appriciated. Thanks in advance - Vance |

At least, bios is active.
Then change memory bank at random. Next try the videocard at your hand. You should not do many things upon this PC for the moment, because it's new. You'd better consult the vendor early. |

Hi,
Without video, you don't know what the drives are doing. Disconnect the drives and try again. Let us know. DC4 |

Agree w/ megumi. Try all combinations of the RAM in different slots. Try a different stick of memory too, or try the memory you have in a different, working computer, to see if you have bad memory.
Definitely contact the vendor. You might not want to send this back, but its much better to get a replacement now than to find that you can't fix it after the warranty has expired.

Update
Update: I could not remove the vid/cpu because they are both onboard, however, my friend's computer also uses ddr 266/333, so after barrowing a stick of his ddr 333 ram I realized that it was a bad/incompatible ram stick causing the problem (glad it wasnt the computer itself).
Thanks for all your help guys, now I just need to get a new hdd (the one I tried using is making a click/clank sound when I turn the computer on, and it does not recognize that there is a hdd in there) |
