new mother board and cpu - new sound and video cards too??

Hi,

so...i'm getting the following board, cpu, and memory:

Abit VA-10 board, AMD Athlon XP 2500 processor, and 256 ram (pc 2700 - thanks for the clarification, karsh.).

should i get new sound and video cards what i have has been working fine for my needs for 5 years....but, with new "other-stuff" should i go ahead and replace these? i don't do gaming...i do some photo editing..but, not for the New Yorker, or anything...so, if i need new...what do you suggest? (even if i don't NEED it, i'd like to know what you suggest.

Why don't you post the make and model of your video/sound cards. Save people guessing whether it's worth upgrading

right...sorry...busy day.

ok:

video: vanta m64 (pt-5988-3q) 16M

sound: creative labs (model CT 4810)

ok...so, the sound card says compatible with "pentium class processor"...does that mean it won't work with the athlon xp?

The motherboard has onboard sound and video, so technically you don't need either card. Personally, I would use the onboard sound, but get a new video card. For your purposes, anything will do, get something cheap like an nVidia geforce 5200. The video card is optional though, since as I said, you have it built in on that mobo. I don't think your current card will work on a new mobo, so that might make the decision for you.
