Unhappy New Motherboard's PCI slots maybe broken?

Hello all--

I've built myself a new computer (Abit IS-10 w/ P4 3.0 ghz.. ) and whenever I try to add a sound card to the pci slots, it will recognize it and boot in windows.. but when i haev my sound card in, my networking card will not work.. The networking card is onboard, and the sound card is a sound blaster live!. There is an onboard sound card but i disabled that in bios. Basically I cannot have both my PCI sound card in the slot. I've also tried another PCI sound card in the same spot, as well as the other 2 PCI slots and I get the same results.. sound cards work, but networking card doesnt work.. says "no network cable found." (but it obviously is plugged in with link lights.) Anyway, I checked windows for resource / irq errors and there werent any, so im not sure what the deal is.. could it be a problem with the motherbaord since it is brand new? please help if you can

Hi darkbird,

It does sound like your new sound card is trying you use the same resouces as the network card. Check in Device Manager for I/O range and IRQ conflicts with both the sound card and the network card. I realize most modern motherboards are jumperless, but check your motherboard manual for any jumpers you may have to move to disable your onboard sound.
