No signal on Monitor (after troubleshooting)

I know you may have seen 10's of threads with this subject over the last few days.

Why i post another is because, after reading through ALOT of the similar threads, my problem still persists.

What happened was, i took my pc to a LAN party... before that it was workign perfectly. At the LAN party, my monitor didn't recieve a signal the first two times i booted it up, but it did right after that.. and so i thougth it was just some wierd temporary problem and carried on.
When i brought my PC back home the next day, i got the no signal on monitor the whole time.

I read up alot, did almost everythign people were told to do in this situation, to no avail.

- I've disconnected all the cables and cards excluding the vga.
- I've reset the CMOS a couple of times.
- I have 2 PC's, therefore switching monitor and VGA back and forth. The Monitor works fine on the other pc, and so does the VGA.
- I've even reseated my processor and HSF with new thermal paste.

I dont get any beep codes - the PC boots like it always does, with the lights, fans running, hdd spinning sounds, everything! except the monitor.

Could it be the mobo? :S

try a different monitor on your system, make sure that proper drivers are installed, make sure that all cards, cables etc. are connected properly.

luck,
robert

ah forgot to mention that, i already tried another monitor on my system, still didn't work.
So it definately isn't the monitor. Drivers are installed ofcourse as it was working before the lan party.
And i've tried playing with the cables. hmm

Thanks for the help though, appreciate it.

I had that too. If you have an AGP video card, it's easy for the card to look fully set in the AGP slot but it's not. The movement to the LAN party probably loosened it a touch. Make sure your video card is fully seated. Take it out and reset it. Make sure it clicks fully down into the slot. Can you try the video card in another PC?

yep, i've tried the VGA on another computer, and it works fine.

I've reseated my VGA card about 3-4 times already, with the 'click' sound... no luck =(

Does your video card work if you boot into safe mode? I have a PC at home that I just built. It worked fine, I moved it and then the video signal went dead. It works fine in 640x480 with minimal colors (safe mode) but it won't work at all with higher resolutions for more colors. The cards sends a "null" signal to the monitor at all higher resolutions. It looks like glowing charcoal instead of black.

Try another video card on your mobo. I tried another vid card and I had the same problem with mine. I'm thinking it's the AGP slot or the Mobo itself. The curious thing is that the drivers don't seem to want to install properly. I've reinstalled XP and the video drivers still only give me a choice of 640x480 or 800x600. The video drivers should give me more choices than that.

I guess our problems are similar,

although, i dont know how you can safe boot ur pc?
or even reinstall anything?
cause i dont get a monitor signal at all, and without a display i can't do squat :P

It just doesn't display anything at all, even with other vga cards, other hdd's, other monitors, anything.

hiya,
Few things you haven't spoken about,
A> Have you got onboard grafix as well if yes ensure its
DISABLED

B> If your grafix card is modern and has more than 1 output capability eg S-Video / DVI then test that the card isn't outputting to those

C> Check "fast write" is disabled in your bios and the the AGP aperture does not exceed half the amount of physical ram for example if you have 512mb of ram 512/2=256 AGP aperture should not exceed 256mb

To boot into safe mode tap F8 as your booting and a list of options will come up.
Hope this helps

Are you getting any system beeps at all? It sounds like it might be more of a MB problem if you've tried all those things w/ your graphic card. I had a very similar problem on my old comp and unplugging and restarting after leaving it idle for a while worked once or twice, and then it just died on me. Got a new MB & Processor and its running fine again.

same problem

hi,

i have the exact same problem as JitenM. did you ever get it resolved? i have an onboard vga card as well as an agp card. but since i cant get a monitor signal, i cant even turn off the onboard card. i tried connecting two diff monitors to both vga ports but still nothing. my hunch is that my mb is dead because i dont hear any beeps although all the fans (cpu and case) are running. please help if you can. thanks

Wow...
Its me again after many months since i started this thread.
I have a dell now, and im getting the same problem all over again, so i went on google and typed in 'no signal on monitor' and it brought me back to square 1 (right here).

As for the first computer i tried to fix, i went to the extent of buying a new mobo.. very shockingly, it still didn't work. I took it to the computer guy down the street and it worked perfectly there.

I then realized i had a power leak from my power cables, everytime i switched on the power it gave a positive electric current to my entire chassis and therefore must've messed up my components. I shifted EVERYTHING to another standard casing and it worked perfectly then on.

Now since this one is a manufacture build Dell, im stuck in the loop all over again. I was on the phone with Dell support for over an hour and even they couldn't work something out.

I'll post again if i get this to work. GL !

the only times i ever had a no signal message on the monitor was when the connector to my video card wasnt fully connected. other than that, all i can think of is that the video card is not being recognized by the motherboard or some other sort of compatability issue.
