Paradyne Router Port Forwarding not working!

Hi, I use RedHat Linux 9. Its working fine and everything's smooth. I installed Firefox and im ready to go. There was one problem, I have a Paradyne router, and I set up Apache WebServer 2 and its working fine LOCALLY. I searched this forum and I knew about Port Forwarding. So, I went to http://192.168.1.1/ typed the admin username and pass and started. I went to Advanced Setup -> Nat -> Virtual Servers.
I clicked 'Add'
Then, it asked me for the following info, and ill say what i typed in it:
Virtual Server Name: apacheweb
Protocol: TCP
External Port: 100
Internal Port: 100
Internal Server IP: 192.168.1.5 (my computer's IP)
I then clicked Add.
I rebooted my router, then tried to go to:
http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:100 (x=my internet IP)
and the page gave me an error.
i then tried to go to
http://192.168.1.5:100
it then worked.
Why isnt the port forwarding working? I read on a thread about trying to turn DHCP off. I did. No difference.
Can you tell me what's wrong with this router?
Thanks!

port 100

I checked web for the port and it's general use but find very little (I was thinking maybe reserved or in use by router).

newacct 100/tcp [unauthorized use]

All I find on newacct is a command :
Creates a new account and an associated account manager and PUB group.

So no port not just 100, I thought just 100. I would say setup apache logging (if not already on), clear log, and hit through port forward and see if Apache acknoweldges the request (logs it), and if so what the client IP is and what the server status is. If not showing maybe put up apache on Win9x (if have Windows machine) and see if Win9x will let it hit (I know Win2K has code to block routers it does not like looks of, black hole router, and so maybe Linux similiar and something you can change, testing to Win9x would rule that out).

I am familiar with port forwarding but from software routers, so bar this I would not have a clue if it turns out nothing is making it past router.

As well, is it that you cannot hit from Lan to Wan and back to Lan, has anyone tried connecting from outside your network?

Redhat (as well as Win2K) has ability (below TCP ports) to recognize routed traffic (nonlocal IP) and block. The reason I pointed this out is that I have setup port forwarding on Win2K-RRAS software routers (and cheapy Linksys), whenever had problem was machine forwarded to and not the forwarding equipment (other than attempting to forward port blocked by ISP, not forwarding all the ports needed for service, or port in use on router). As well Redhat may have setting like Win2K blackhole router detection to troubleshoot remote connection problems accross routers. I realize you are running Linux and that is why I recommended trying Apache on Win98, as Win98 is a slut that lets everything it can in (would isolate down to your router for sure if Win98 also fails). If you had post you do not even see the lights blink on apache-machine's NIC that would save me from second guessing server not router.

If your router is at fault and it does not support forward (regardless of setting) I would appreciate a followup as could save myself (as well as others) time down the road should I (we) run into one. The only thing I seen on web about that router was having to have NAT enabled for port forwarding (indicating it should work). One other post I seen about that make of router was a guy saying he had a Linksys attached to his because his ISP did not support it as router only as modem (not that it seems to be your case as you are routing just not forwarding). If is from your ISP (router with modem) may want to investigate possiblity they can disable things like port forwarding with remote admin software (or maybe done when connection established).

I know the answer to the Pradyne router Port Forwarding

I have called my ISP thousands of time - since they were the ones who have Provided my with the router- and discussed the Problem that you are facing right now. and after testing port forwarding with the help of other friends who have their own Internet ADSL Connection at their homes I found out the following;

The port Forwarding on Paradyne Rourters will work only if you Setup the Port Triggering. Which can be done from the Web Interface of the router Gateway.

Also

The Port Forwarding will work on any foreign Visiter, but not your network. that means that if you forward to your Computer IP (which you mentioned as; 192.168.1.5) and then try to access it it will not work. But if anybody else try to access it it will work.
