Partion Space...please help

PARTITIONS & SWAP SPACE…please help?

Hi, please could someone consider the following for me and make a recommendation as to how I could partition a WD160gig(8MBcache) HDD for the following needs.

Are the following partitions too many for a 160?

15 gig for windows?
60 gig for games?
60 gig for programs?…..(some multimedia, office and utils?)
25 … storage, downloads ect….I think I will loose around 5 to 10 gig by the time I get to creating all the partitions so this storage partition will probably be around 15 gig which will do me.

I will be using my old 40 gig for storage anyways with a fat 32 for images as well.

Basically I am just trying to get my head around allactaing enough space, and gamming is defiantly something I don’t want to hold back on.

Should I separate the 60 gig partition for programs and utils to 20gig for office apps &
Utils, And make a 40gig for my scanning software and smaller Multimedia apps?

When allocating storage partition is space of any importance at all?

HOW WOULD YOU PARTITION a 160gig for Gaming!, and basic user home needs?

Oh ya, Is partition Magic 8 an OK program. I am using WIN2k

Please help…Thankyou

Question

I've read this twice and have asked myself the same question both times. What is your motivation behind creating more than 1 partition?

Fair enough question I supose.

I first heard about partioning through a freind who showed me how easy it was to install windows back onto his system by means of an image he created shortly after he had set up his windows.

I did some research into partioning, and have somewhat become overwhelmed with those who swear by it and others who seem to be against it.

The article at
http://partition.radified.com/
seem to explain it very well concluding that there are many benifits. But now I have heard the opisite that partition can slow down the HDD's response time.

I,m just looking for the best of both worlds, and am now considering running Raid0 or Raid0/1, or mabey I,ll just run to 80gig Hdd,s one for gaming and the other for buring DVD and the like.

Gamming and Multimedia...Best of both worlds
any ideas?

You shouldn't have any problem making those partitions. It can be useful to make a few different partitions to allow you to reformat one if your program gets corrupted, without reformatting all of windows. (Maybe a small one for windows, one for programs and one for music and movies, something like that). It can be a convenience. Partitions would still be possible on a raid array, thats not really the same thing.
