    PBX/Answerphone/Telephony Equip

    Hi,

I was asked whether it is possible to use a computer to record and route incoming and outgoing calls.

Basically, we have 8 extensions and two lines, of which is controlled by a panasonic pxb thing.

They wanted to know if it is possible to make something using a computer as the base, and attach a pci card or something and install some software to turn it into a pbx and answerphone.

The software would need to control the calls in/out, record the numbers, be compatible with caller id, answer calls and record calls as programmed, etc.

Is this possible, and if so what do I need and how?

    thanks in advance,
    computer

search CPAN for Device::Serialport, get a null modem cable, a copy of minicom for testing and a sample SMDR output for the pbx - you can capture from the serial device on a closed loop and parse each record received.
