PC restarts when it shifts to UPS
Hi,
I have two computers. One is a Duo Core 1.8 GHZ and the other is a P4 1.5 GHZ. I am using a 1000W UPS. The problem is that whenever the main power supply shuts down and the power supply shifts to UPS the P4 computer I have restarts where as the Duo Core doesn't. What do you think the problem is? How can I stop the P4 from restarting when the power supply shifts to UPS? Please help me out with this. The model of my P4 motherboard is Intel D850GB. Thank you! |

what is the voltages of the UPS inside the computer...and how bad *** is your 3d-cards (they also chow power) and your screens are connected right? how much do they need to start?
this is probably your case: power goes off>screens take most power to start>your p4 probably has a more power UPS inside and more power requirements> therefore causing a fluctuation in power output>causing restart. specs of your machines would be nice please :-) |

Thanks for the reply. There is no UPS inside the computer. I am using an external UPS 1000W for both computers. The problem is that even if I connect the P4 computer alone with the UPS it still restarts whenever the main power supply goes out and it shifts to UPS. The specs of both systems are as below: 1. Can a P4 computer with the specs mentioned below take more than 1000W alone? 2. Is there a setting in BIOS which actually makes it restart when the power supply sifts to UPS? --------------------------------- System: Intel Duo Core 1.8 GHZ Monitor: 17" Dell VGA: 128 MB RAM: 2 GB Hard Disk: 80 GB System: Intel P4 1.5 GHZ Monitor: 17" LG Flatron VGA: 32 MB RAM: 1 GB Hard Disk: 160 GB UPS: 1000W --------------------------------- Please help me out with this! Thank you! |

sorry bout that...i meant PSU (power supply unit), i need to know what wattage your PSU is for the P4.
no is should not eat that much power, and no, there is no setting for UPS in the BIOS (as far as i know) also if possible could you give me the power rating of your monitors. if i am correct the flatron is not LCD right? are any of your screens LCD? i am also suspecting your PSU, why? because here in kenya we have a load of power cuts/fluctuations, now for some weird reason when the power fluctuates, either my computer will freeze, restart or power off...yet my brothers does not? another problem i had (which is why i dont use UPS anymore) is that if your screen wants too much at the same time as your computer, the UPS cant handle it. other variables may include: 1.how many cd/dvd roms you have 2.how many HDD's you have 3.if your processor is overclocked or not but i am not seeing these variables as problems as you have posted your specs. get back to me on the PSU wattage :-) test: get into windows, put your monitor off. unplug the UPS from the wall (artificially making a power cut) check if the computer is still on (if not on, we have a more specific problem) if it is on, attempt to turn the screen on. if the computer turns off, that means that one screen is eating just over the limit the UPS can handle. |
