PC won't start until printer is unplugged

Hi,
I have the following problem: I cannot turn on my pc unless I unplug the printer that is connected to the parallel port. What could be the problem?

thanks

What OS? What exactly happens when you push the power button with the printer connected? Did it work before? What changed? Do you get an error if you reconnect the printer after starting up, or does it work? Need more info.

printer

is the printer plugged into the same wall outlet?. if not do that first. you could have a voltage differance going back on the ground wire in the printer to the computer.
