Power Supply Rating
Hi,
I've acquired a bunch of small TFT monitors. The specs say they require 12v 2A power supplies. If I try and run these from the 12v supplies of an ATX power supply am I likely to blow anything up? My logic is that voltage is important, and that it's important that the power supply can handle the current requirement, but that the TFT monitors can ONLY draw the current they need. So, if I use a 12v regulated supply which is capable of delivering up to, say 10 amps, the TFT's will still only draw their required 2 amps? Am I right, or am I in for an expensive afternoon? At least it makes no harm, perhaps. OverAmpere is rather favourable than less-one. On the other hand, Over-Voltage is truly dangerous. It usually (but not always (^^;?(Strange?)) make the device give out white smoke. Be careful! At your own risk! Of course, No Warranty! |

for the feedback chaps, although I must say the engineering link really fried my brain.
Well, there was only one way of finding out. Connected the TFT to the ATX supply and turned on. For an hour now all is fine!!! Regards Chris |
