printer resolution question

I'm not sure if this is the right spot for this question but I couldn't find a better one.

Anyways, I was wondering if a printer that says it can print at 2400x600 dpi can also print at 1200x1200? Some printers I have seen specify both where as some just say 2400x600. So I was wondering if those printers simply didn't mention 1200x1200 because all 2400x600 can print at 1200x1200 or if it was just the printers that mentioned both resolutions can print that way.

Also I am looking for a good multifunction color laser printer (price ~$500) so if anyone has any suggestion or experiences(good or bad) with any printers that fit the description please let me know. The printer doesn't need to handle a huge volume but the print/scan quality must be good.
