Angry Problem with Netgear WG311 and Win2k

Hi,

I'm having a problem with WG311 driver and
Win2k : either the PC freeze when installing
the driver ( and must do hard reboot ) or
the system freezes during windows loading
on next reboot, generally crashes with
"blue screen of death" error 0xC0000221
cannot load driver wg311nd5.sys
Already tried to change PCI slot, etc ....
but nothing worked !

The card itself and the PC hardware are not
problematic, I have Linux Mandrake 9.1
installed with dual boot, and it works without
any problem ... knowing that linux drivers
are still beta ! ( but better than Netgear
windows one ..... )

If anyone has a idea ?
Tks

have you tried copying the files to your drive if you are trying to install from cd, my netgear fa311 install cd was crappy, copied the files to the c drive and it installed fine.

Unhappy

I've finally got the PC booting, disabling a lot of things
( unused COM + LTP ports, .... ).
But seems that the problem has something to do with the VIA
chipset of my MSI KT3 Ultra 2 : systems still often freezes
( but after windows boot ), and this can be troubleshooted
by disabeling USB ports ( which is not a satisfactory solution !! )
Somebody knows a fix for it ?
Tks

Red face

Hi,

Tried with 4.48 and 4.49, having same troubles with both.
Read somewhere that a lot of users had the same trouble
with WG511 ( PCMCIA version ) while using driver release 1.0,
and that was fixed with release of 2.0
Can hope that it will be the same for WG311 !!....
Already asked Netgear support twice and got .... no answer !

Also tried with driver from the CD as well as the one downloaded
from Netgear support site, but none ran better.

I can imagine that a good compromise between disabling
some BIOS features and using right VIA drivers ( 4.43 ? 4.49 ? )
as well as proper USB2 VIA support ( filter 1.10 ? usb2-5.1 ? )
would produce acceptable result, but this means a lot of
possibilities ..........

Tks
