Purchasing a Keyboard
I was wondering if any of you could recommend a keyboard that meets most of what I want--if not all.
I will be purchasing from NewEgg.com. - Very comfortable to use - Quiet - Aesthetically pleasing - Keys with incredible sensitivity (nothing frustrating) - Wired And that's it, I guess. It doesn't matter if the keyboard has hotkeys or not. Media stuff on the keyboard isnt important. I'm willing to spend $60.00 at most. Thanks for your help. ![]() |

Why does it have to be wired? Microsoft and Logitech both have nice keyboards (wired and wireless) as well as keyboard/mouse combos. If you're looking for just a keyboard, those are the manufacturers to look at, and you will be well under $60.
I personally have the Logitech cordless MX duo keyboard and mouse, and love it. Works great, looks good.

I have the same combo, and couldn't agree with you more on how much i like it Karsh. If you want to get a great keyboard, they do sell wired versions of that same keyboard. It's very quiet, comfortable, hot keys are quite nice, and aesthetically pleasing as well. Adam TT |

i've been looking for a new keyboard (maybe mouse) too but at $70, that duo seems kinda steep for me. my question about wireless keyboards is this, how long will it last before you need to change the batteries? or better, how often have you needed to change the batteries? and for the wireless mouse, same question (if it's not a rechargeable) and is it any heavier than a standard mouse? is interference ever a problem with you two also?

For the duo, the mouse has rechargable batteries, so no worries there. Its a good, solid feeling mouse, very responsive, with nice buttons for forward/back, paging up and down (faster than scroll wheel), and switching programs.
I've only changed the batteries in the keyboard once in ~1year, and even then I might not have had to, it fouled up somehow and I had to reinstall the drivers. Wireless mice w/o rechargable batteries do eat a lot of batteries, no hard numbers though. Basically, its a $70 combo, but I consider it well worth it. One caveat: If you have a metal or mostly metal desk, that can cause some problems (did w/ my dad occasionally). Its usually fixable by relocating the base station though. |

Cheers to the Logitech. Great feel, and better RF reception that MS. MS also has a funky verticle switch on the wheel that is kind of anoying, and it doesn't have the discrete "thumps" in the wheel that every other mouse has. Not having this "thump" leads to inadvertant scrolling. Regarding batteries, do not buy one without rechargable mouse batteries.

Is this keyboard the right one?
I'll probably get it (thanks for the recommendation). I was reading the reviews for this product on NewEgg, and some people said that the media buttons aren't very responsive. Is it as bad as they make it sound? |

Thats the one...I don't think I would ever buy a different (at least not today). As far as the buttons not responsive, I have reprogrammed all of the media buttons and have no problems. I think you have made a good choice

You want to call your local HP dealer and ask them to order part no. C3757-60401 (C3757B keyboard). This is an old school, heavy duty keyboard with what is IMHO a perfect keypress. No Windows keys, nothing fancy, just a plain, solid keyboard. ;-)

I've had my wireless keyboard for about 9 months now, I haven't yet replaced them. The wireless mouse can go for a few days depending on how much use it gets. I've had mine go for about 3 days before the battery died, and even then, recharging only takes a couple hours. So i just plop that thing down in the base when i go to bed and i'm good all day long, even for playing games like Soldier of Fortune II (just one example.) So it's been very good. My only complaint (help me out with any suggestions anyone) but it's kinda hard to get the mouse into the EXACT RIGHT SPOT in the base to get it to recharge. oh well, still worth it by a long shot.

Strange, I can just drop mine in. Tried brushing off the contacts? |

tried brushing off both, it seems that i get it on funny angles or something, but sometimes i can try it like a dozen times and can't get them to line up right. maybe the pins inside the base station are bent away from the mouse contacts? i'll look into later when i start to use it again, i don't usually get much use out of my computer during the summers b/c of work.
