Query regarding resetting of Modem

Hi all
My application is running on an hand held device, where in its trying to connect and transfer data to GPRS network. I'm having some problems with the opening and closing of the com port for communication. Could some one tell If there are any means by which we can programmatically reset the modem and com port instead of warm booting it.
