How about Start > Run > sfc /scannow

if that doesnt get it, I'd go for a repair installation:

Very Slow Hard Disk

I too have your exact problem. Even after replacing the hard drive and restoring a mirror image of XP and all my data and programs. It took about 3 weeks for it to slow down but I am now in the same predicament as before. I tested my system with an online product and it found no viruses but said my hard disk was performing at 1 Mbyte/sec instead of the average of 40-60 Mbytesw/sec for other similar systems. My question to you is did you ever find out what the problem was. I have another symptom that seems to be associated with my problem. In many of my dialoge boxes I noticed some of my text charaters are red and some are green.

well snagglepuss, this might be the problem of hard disk space or you need to go
run then type preftech and enter it, then you gets some of the files ,delete those files
this might help you.
