I would definitely advise against the 9800SE unless you're planning to softmod it. The 9600xt is similarly priced, and will outperform the 9800SE substantially.
Also, 256mb of ram just isn't enough for any real gaming ability (or even running windows xp well.) You probably don't need a floppy drive at all, and could put that money towards more ram. Finally, you really want a cd burner for backups, music, etc. The plain cd-rom probably isn't enough. These changes will add a bit to the price. However, they are very well worth it and will give you much more functionality from your computer.

athlon 64 3000+ 512 ddr ram 160gb harddrive 1.44 floppy drive 16x dvd rom 52x cdrw 17 inch crt monitor 128mb ddr ati radeon 9800 pro logitech keyboard and optical mouse win xp pro 5.1 channel audio 5.1 surround speakers + subwoofer then the 3 year warranty so this computer is really just one that i can do very moderate gaming on so i can take it to my m8s (to game) or mums (when on holiday) or over to computer m8s (to just be nerds for awhile) so by games i mean like diablo morrowind fallout tactics the old classic games and could u help me out are there any alternatives for a monitor like using the tv as a monitor o something cos a 17 inch crt is not really portable edit>if fact why should i even get a graphics card like that for games like that could i not just spen a extra 20 quid on a mobo with onboard geforce4 graphics insted of buying a graphics card for about 90 i would save like 70 quid is this a good idea?<edit |

I don't recommend onboard graphics for any kind of gaming, especially if you only have 256mb of RAM.
I also still say 256 RAM is not enough for a computer nowdays, but you can always add more later if money is a problem now. The burner is only for backups and such, so if you aren't keeping anything important on that box, its not a necessity. I'll stick to my video card and ram recommendations however. I believe the 9600xt has a video out, so you could use a tv as a monitor. |

The picture shouldn't be too bad.
This site has lots of graphics cards compared, so you can find whats in your price range and get the one with the best performance. HTH |
