I have a hard drive that I am trying to set up as a slave, but it is not showing up on My Computer. It is initialized and the jumper pins are set correctly. The power for it is plugged in. It even shows up if I go to Device Manager. If I set this hard drive to master and my other one to slave, everything works as it should. This is driving me crazy. There is one thing that I find odd and might be the cause of the problem: the jumper pins are a bit weird, or at least not like the ones I'm used to. Here is my attempt at an illustration of them:
| | | O | | | | | So that's my slave drive, as I have it right now (no jumper on it). As you can see, there are three pins on the top, then a space, and then another pin with a plastic thing around it. I was trying to remove this plastic thing, but my plyers are too big and I'm not sure if it is even removable. On the bottom are five pins. Anyone have an idea of what the problem might be? P.S. The hard drive I want to set as slave is Maxtor 6Y080L2. |

You probaly need to partition the drive. Control Panel->Administrative Tools->Computer Management->Disk Management

Thanks, but the HDD doesn't show up on Disk Manager. It only shows up on Device Manager.

What does Device manager say about the drive?

It says that the device is working properly and it is enabled.

If you have a Windows OS ( Windows 98, ME, 2000, XP, I prefer XP ) cd you can try formatting the drive using the CD but after it does format power down the P.C. other wise it will copy windows installation files.

Haha... well this is stupid. I disabled the drive and then enabled it again and now it shows up. Crazy computers. Thanks.
