Small LAN

Hello,

Here at my home, we have a small WLAN, using D-Link equipment. It has been pretty reliable, but is starting to have problems. D-Link issued an End of Life notice for the Model that I have...and I have the very first revision. So, I wanted to see if any of you have any great suggestions for a new network set up. For now, I want to keep it wireless. Our attic has a weird set up, and running cables is rather difficult here.

COMPUTER 1: Dell Dimension (Tower). Located right next to Cable Modem / Router...use a standard CAT5E cable to connect it!

COMPUTER 2: Dell Dimension (Tower). About 50-60 feet away in another room. It is located in a little cubby hole...and we have had MAJOR problems with the reception with the D-Link Wireless PCI Adapter. I guess it doesn't like being in a cubby hole.

COMPUTER 3: Dell Laptop (Mobile). Roams throughout the house. Need a Wireless Card for it.

Anyone have any routers that they really like? I've used LinkSys in a couple of network installations I have done, and they seem to be better. Is their SpeedBooster technology worth it? What about their Wireless PCI Cards??

Thanks guys!

The DLink DI-624 is working in a very similar setup. I live in an attic, and I have the DLink and my main frankentower wired to it (ethernet). I have a Dell laptop, which connects almost instantly through wireless. My roommate likewise has a dell laptop, and he got a netgear wireless card and it works great. And there's frankentower.b which is a shared general purpose house computer on wireless. This is an old san francisco victorian house. We're all using .g

However the range may not be that great. It works within the house but not in the back yard on the laptop. So your cubbyhole may still be a problem. Be aware that other things may be causing your problem: specifically the wiring in the walls and other nearby electronics devices.
