Angry Smelling smoke, and no video.

Hello. When I turn on my newly build computer, it smells like something is burning, and I also don't get any video on my monitor. I think the burning smell might be the compund between the cpu and the heatsink melting, but am not sure. Thanks for your help.

Even with the very limited information you presented I'd say those are two bad things. If I were you, I'd unplug the computer, take it all apart and put it back together again making sure to get all the connections correct. I've never smelled anything burning in the PC's I've built. Make sure your heatsink is sitting flush on the CPU.

Also be sure that you're not overheating the PC. That happened to me and it was a nightmare. Even if you think your case is huge, get a bigger one and have at least 5 fans... better to be safe than sorry. And unfortunately it may be too late. I had a problem just like that and had to replace my motherboard.

Good luck!

A general rule is that if you already smell smoke, then you're screwed.

By the time smoking from overheating occurs - and overheating always occurs on the cpu first - your cpu is fried.

It's simple, and I can predict your problem.

Your CPU overheated, and has now burnt. It has no also ruined the socket on your motherboard. You will have to replace your motherboard and your cpu. This is guarenteed. 100% positive you will have to do this.

Maybe your video card fried? Capacitor on your mobo fried?

See if you can get an RMA on the board (that is, if its new).
