The system restarts while trying to load Windows

I installed a new dvd drive on the third bay and didn't notice it was touching the motherboard. The system didn't boot up.Removed the drive and the the computer starts loading Windows, but when it gets to the welcome screen it restarts. The mobo has 2 pairs of memory slots-pc100/133 and pc2100. I curently use pc2100. Whet tryed pc100 it woldn't t post-no beeps at all. The same happened when I replaced the PSU.Obviously something has gone, but how can I diferentiate if it's the mobo, psu or the memory ?

Hey M8,

Sounds like your board shorted out, when your DVD-ROM touched the board while it was active. Its not totally dead though, windows is running diagnostics on all hardware when it boots, but the board is now faulty, causing a crash. so test the M/Board if you can with all new parts (ie. CPU, RAM, PSU)

Hope that helps

Dead mobo is #1 in my list. What is confusing for me is that the system wouldn't post with diferent memory or PSU.I want to be 100% sure the problem is in the mobo before I by a new one.
