    Unable to open Drive D

    I am unable to open drive D which is my internal cd reader, I have had a look in device manager which shows Windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot find the hardware device. (Code 41), any help would be appreciated

    Do you mean the eject button doesn't open the tray? Or, you've loaded a CD into the tray and you can't open/explore it, or the device simply doesn't show up in the My Computer device listing?

    Just out of curiosity.. have you tried rebooting the computer since you noticed the problem?

    Of course a reboot should be the first thing you do.

    Failing that has anything changed about the computer recently? Even hooking up a USB Flash Drive can sometimes screw up your drive mapping. If you've hooked something like that up, unplug it, then reboot (again) ...

    Thanks for the info, I have rebooted and it is still the same, also I have an external DVD writer and I am unable to connect with that, all that shows up on 'my computer ' is sdrive c which is the hard drive in the computer.

    When this (or these) problem(s) started, had anything been done? Hardware added? Software installed/uninstalled?

    Have you tried any virus scans yet?

    Try This

    launch Notepad, (Start > Run, type in: notepad)
    copy and paste next present in the quotebox below in it:
    (don't forget to copy and paste REGEDIT4)

    REGEDIT4

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}]
    "UpperFilters"=-
    "LowerFilters"=-

    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Cdr4_2K]

    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Cdralw2k]

    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Cdudf]

    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\UdfReadr]

    Save this as fix.reg and change the "Save as type" to "All Files" and place it on your desktop. It should look like this:
    Double-click on it and when it asks you if you want to merge the contents to the registry, click "Yes" or "OK". You should receive a message that it was successful. You may delete the file afterwards

    Now please reboot the machine.

    See if that helps

    Sheppard: The wraith, nah. Now clowns that's another story. They scare the crap out of me.
