Hi, I have a Shuttle Ak-31 MB with a Athlon 1.4, 256 GB DDR, ATI Raedon Video card, cd-rom, and hard-drive. Everything was working fine until I tried to turn it on one day. It seemed to boot completely fine except for the lack of video to the monitor. Assuming it was the video card I tried swapping it with a known good one and still same problem. Tried swapping PSU, no luck, checked all connections and no luck. That is when I checked out these posts and saw the comment about the clearing the cmos and changing the cmos battery. I tried clearing the cmos with the mb jumpers and it booted fine(with all orginal parts). So I replaced the battery with a brand new one thinking I was done but still has the same problem. The only way it will boot it if I clear the cmos each time before booting. I am starting to think that something on the mb has gone out. I hope not but I am not sure what else it could be. If anyone has any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks

(~O;?(Whenever you clear COMS, it can boot correctly?)
I'm not sure of this. Bios itself may be about to be gone for some reasons. Try ClearCmos.exe here http://www.unicore.com/techsupport/award/awardutils.htm Note: Other strong utilities are available at your own risk. If it fails, prepare Bios Update for your mobo. Take backup of it and rewrite with care. |

Sorry I haven't replied sooner. I just wanted to say thanks for the help and also wanted to post my results so if anyone else has a similiar problem they can see what works. I ended up having to perform a bios update on the motherboard. Actually I ended up having to do it a couple of times, it seemed not to take the first couple of times I performed the update. (Flashed using Award's updater off their site at the Dos Prompt <not a ms-dos window>.) But it finally completed the update and actually saved it and then it seemed to work fine. I haven't had any problems with it yet. Again thanks for the help.
