Weird CD Writer Behavior
I've upgraded two computers from Windows 98 Second Edition to Windows XP Professional. Ever since the upgrade, the computers' CD writers haven't been functioning properly. Randomly, they will stop working, and the CD-RW drive, along with any other CD drives, will disappear from 'my computer' as though they never existed.
I also notice that when this problem happens, the CD drives will show a red light, as if they're trying to burn something. |

What the condition is it on device managers?
Make the matter more clear and put into order. |

Don't just tell me to make the matter "more clear and in order." If you need more details, ask questions.
The devices appear fine in the device manager. They disappear when all other traces of them disappear from "my computer." |

similar problem
I had a similar problem once before and it ended up being my power supply. It went out shortly after the problem started. Once a new supply was put in, I never had CD problems again.
Don't know if this is your problem, but it might be worth trying if nothing else works. cheers!! |

(^^;?(Because I can't got hold of the nuance of disappearing, and its condition.)
Surely experience only would know this, then as evilwoman said, it may have something to do with power shortage. Recent CD is high speed and power-eater. And XP is also heavy. What is PC spec. and power supply wattage? |
