which pc should i get?
I'm going to be buying a new computer to do the following:
- medium graphics games (tomb raider, etc.) - lots of photo editing/graphics work (photoshop, illustrator, etc) - other minor activities such as word processing/web surfing I have the following 2 options: 1) AMD, 2.08GHz, 400MHz bus speed, 512MB ram, ATI 9600TX = $680 2) P4, 2.20GHz, 800MHz bus speed, 512MB ram, Nvidia 5200 = $800 I'm aiming towards #1. In either case I will have to buy more ram. How much does the bus speed/slight cpu speed difference matter for the stuff I'm going to be doing?? Thanks. |

For AMD's, its more useful to look at the name of the chip (2500+, 3200+ etc) than at the clock speed. Which chip is it? The 2.08ghz sounds like maybe the 2800+ barton, but that has a 333mhz fsb. Or the 3000+ barton with the 400mhz fsb? Double check. Also check if the video card on that is the 9600XT, rather than TX (I think you made a typo).
I'd definitely recommend system 1 then.

I believe the first one is an AMD Athlon XP 3200+.
It comes w/ an integrated graphics card so I'm actually upgrading it w/ an ATI Radeon 9600 XT. Putting aside the video card, how does this compare to the P4, 2.20GHz one? Thanks! |

Video card aside, the amd is the better computer. Video card included, the amd is the better computer. Nuff said.
