Will not Boot(will not complete POST)

During the POST, the computer makes a single beep(that is normal), it checks the video and memory, then the following" Award Modular BIOS v4.51PG, An Energy Star Ally
Copyright @1984-98, Award Software, Inc.
Asus P2B BIOS Revision 1012
Pentium III 450Mhz Processor
Memory Test : 524288K OK
Award Plug and Play BIOS Extension v1.0A(This is the point where my computer freezes and goes no further, I can't even boot from a floppy). I have tried various memory configurations and they all seem to detect ok. This same problem occurred on a Asus P299 motherboard. I have tried installing a different CD rom, 3 1/2 floppy, etc. The only thing I haven't tried is a new CPU and/or hard drive (10GB Fujitsu with Win XP Home installed). Twice the computer has gone further and actually booted up and acts normal, but 95% of the time it won't even boot!! What should I replace next? It seems like it is a controller problem!!!! Thanks for any help!

Remove all unnecessaries for boot, floppy only.

Clear CMOS.

Remove the heatsink and reapply grease.

Replace CPU.

Thanks for the reply. I unhooked all items except the video card and the floppy. Removed the CPU and applied silver thermal paste and reinstalled. Cleared the CMOS. It still freezes at the same spot. I checked the Power supply "good voltage" at pin 8 - it reads 4.74volts, so that should be okay.
Still baffled by this problem.

(Oo;?(Hmmm? Asus also?)

Unplug Keyboard and mouse, then boot.

Do you see "Keyboard errors"? If so, Bios detect it, then input devices might have problems.

*****

Boot, pressing INSERT key.

*****

Consult awardflash manual well. Write command in autoexec.bat such like:

awdflash ******.*** /SN /PY /CP /CD /CC

Wait for 20-30 min. patiently.

Hi,
Tried booting with KB and Mouse unplugged - No difference, goes to same freeze spot.

Tried booting with "insert" key pressed - No difference, goes to same freeze spot.

The write command in autoexec.bat might be okay if the computer would at least boot from a floppy, then I could flash the BIOS, etc. But without even a floppy boot, it seems I am dead in the water!!!!

Re: 5% of time when comp would boot, I believe the floppy was detected. I have since tried several different floppies and cables- still no luck.

Still baffled!!!!!

Tried booting with KB and Mouse unplugged - No difference, goes to same freeze spot <---(Oo;??(This means that BIOS is not working correctly, but can't explain Asus P299 thing.)

You cannot but flash BIOS automatically for the moment.

But also find common point between the two boards configuration or environs.
