Question windows 2000 not recognizing proper HD size

Hello,

my previous WD HD failed, and got a replacement from Dell today, a 250 GB one. Even though my BIOS is quite happy to acknowledge that it's 250, my windows 2k isn't, nor is the fdisk from my diagnostics boot cd or my partition magic. They all claim it's 127 GB, and as such I can only create a 127 GB partition of of it. Does anyone know about this kind of problem or even a solution to it?

I can reccomend you to install an Intel Application Accelerator, if you are using an intal motherbaord in your PC. Also I recomend you to install SP4 on your win2k.

I know it's a late reply, but thanks

It's not a piece of software, but a simple change of the registry that was needed, it's all up and working now.

Thanks!

Bull****.

Win2k/XP/Win2003 w/NTFS all recognize partitions sizes up to 1 Terrabyte.

It clearly states so on the manual for my maxtor h.d. that windows will only recon up to 128gb h.d. space and which is why they provided the maxblast software to recongnize the partition size. I do not think that maxtor will lie will they. http://www.maxtor.com/en/support/do...s/maxblast3.htm

I think the MAXBLAST software automatically applies the registry changes I had to make by hand.

GreyCouncil obviously doesn't seem to know what he's talking about, so I'd just ignore him.

I don't know what it does but when I was using my old p.c. I had to install the maxblast software before installing windows.

Well, according to MS, the NTFS file system supports partitions sizes up to 1 Terrabyte.

Actually, it looks like the largest size is 16 Exabytes - but no one has built a drive that large....yet

The government probably has those size drives they wil not release it to the public though it was the same thing that they did with the 64bit cpu's and zeons.
