worth upgrading from 5400 WD drive to 7200 RPM seagate HD
I am currently have an HP m376n media center:
2.6GHz Pentium 4 1 Gb pc2700 ram primary HD WD 5400 120Gb and i was wondering if i should upgrade to this seagte 160GB 7200 drive i have sitting around? I mainly use the computer for gaming and video editing... my instincts tell me that i should but i just wanted to hear someone else'e opinion. Another problem i have considered is that i am running xp media center and im not sure how i can take the new drive and either copy the partition over or create a new partition with all of the programs my comp came loaded with thanx |

I would definitely upgrade, especially if you already have the 7200 drive that isn't being used. Not even a question.
You should be able to image your current drive with something like Symantec Ghost, which would be an exact copy of what you have now. Or, for the stuff that came pre-loaded, the computer probably came with system restore disks, which would re-load the factory image.

If karsh44 hadn't said, I'd have said the same thing. If it's just sitting around, no question! Do it!
If you are looking for an explaination on the perfermance difference between 5400rpm and 7200rpm, it isn't much - something like .1% increase in overall drive speed. Regardless - do it! |

System restore disk probably won't work, though, if you change drives. Go with the Ghost recommendation. There are other apps like that available, too.
