xp 2800 core?
Hi,
Upgrade Kit AMD XP2800+ 2.083Ghz Epox EP-8K9A7i, PC3200 DDR 256MB, Fan I just bought the above upgrade kit from www.komplett.ie and used it to build a new computer. As you can see the XP2800 is rated at 2.083Ghz, however everywhere i look on the web the XP2800 is rated at 2.25Ghz. I had also noticed that some xp2800s were specifically marked as having a Barton core while mine was not - something i overlooked at the time. Also i cant get a look at the bios screen because my monitor wont come on quick enough - even on reboot Also i cant get a look at the bios bootup screen beause my beautiful new 19" samsung monitor wont come on quick enough - even on a reboot. As far as i know the only other core my 2800 could have is the Thoroughbred core as seen here - http://www.lostcircuits.com/cpu/amd_xp2800+/ Also included in the upgarde pack was pc3200 memory. My previuos pc was an xp 1800 with pc2100 memory. Does the xp 2800 actually use the full speed of pc3200 memory or just at pc2700 speeds? I would very much appreciate if someone could clear all this up for me cause i cant find any answers on the web. |

The 2800+ Barton runs at 2.083Ghz, with a 333mhz fsb, so I would guess that is what you have. As for getting into the bios, just keep hitting "delete" when you restart, and you will get in, and your monitor will be able to catch up.
RAM wise, the pc3200 will be operating at pc2700 speed, since that is the fsb speed of the processor. HTH

Thanks,
with the bios i meant the info it outputs onthe screen i.e when it dos the memory check & displays cpu type & speed etc. Theyve been around for a while but i still hate monitors thst only come on when they detect a signal from the graphics card - it even manages to switch off during a reboot. Theres no trick to keeping it on all the time or recording what the the initial bios display is is there? I remember years ago seeing someone hit P to pause the boot & read whats on the screen but it could have been DOS. |

Try hitting the "pause/break" key, or the escape key. If you need that info some other time though, you can get it from bios, though you may have to look in a couple different menus.
The monitor thing may be a setting (power saving perhaps?), which you could look into. |
