XP freezes at logo screen (on boot)
Hey all,
Working, new AMD winXP computer. Came home, turned it on. Drives spun up but nothing on the monitor. No signal. I've got a PCI Nvidia 128 video card. Tried another ATI PCI card. Same thing. I did notice that the fan wasn't running on the PCI video card (!) Tried an old non-PCI card and the computer boots but freezes at the logo screen (with the progress bar). It will go into safe mode with this old video card, but won't boot regular. I installed a new hard drive about a week previous, so I pulled it and plugged in the old one. Same results. Do I have a bad motherboard? Power supply? I'm not sure where to start looking. It sounds like the motherboard is dying when asked to deal with the video card.... Help!? cm |

Does the mobo have onboard video that you might have accidentally enabled? Try removing and reinstalling the newest drivers in safe mode, and run antivirus and spyware scans. Also, more detail on your setup (cpu, mobo brand/model, etc)
