    Using a 44pin laptop hard disk as an external hard disk

    Hello,

    I had a broken laptop. Pulled out its 44pin IDE Hard Disk. I have an old external Caddie which takes a 40pin IDE Hard Disk. I bought the following from ebay;

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Laptop-2-5-IDE-Drive-Convertor-Cable-44-pin-to-40-pin-/200612126786?ssPageName=ADME:L:OC:US:3160

    Should it be just a question of connecting everything together and it should work? Note: I also gave supply to the 40pin IDE Hard Disk through the cable that comes from the 40pin header.

    At the moment the Caddie fan start spinning when I turn the Caddie on but I cannot hear the Hard Disk spin, not is this detected from the computer! Do I need to set some jumper settings?

    Ok managed. I must have been connecting the cable bad. Just checked the wiki page for IDE (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Integrated_Drive_Electronics#Parallel_ATA_interface), connected everything and worked fine.
