Help with CPU 3.4GHZ Cooling problem....
well i bought new CPU LGA775 3.4GHz presccot. i have no idea why cpu is running so hot. it is like 70c idle. i have 1 fan on side and 1 fan on top. also i have bought new heatsink for it. but it dosnt help much. it's still like 70C. how can i cool my CPU down????

Better thermal paste, and making sure you have good contact are ways to reduce the temps. Also be sure you have clear space around the case for good airflow. As long as the cpu isn't throttling (slowing down) though, you are ok.

Try to use more thermal paste, or buy addional passive cooler (if you doesn't have one).

It doesn't take a whole lot. Put a small bead down, smooth it out over the cpu, then place the heatsink on it. Lift the sink up again and see where the paste has touched. Add a little more paste to the areas that were not touched. "Normal" temps vary, but I've seen a lot of prescotts that idle in the 50's C w/ basic cooling. Again though, if the cpu isn't throttling under load, you don't really have a problem. |

Prescotts run much hotter then any other Pentium 4 processors that Intel has out. The only thing I can suggest is better thermal paste and more fans.
