Noisy Tower...water cooling the answer?

I built this tower myself and I believe that it's pretty quiet except for the fans that come with my 2 SLI video cards.

Link to My Video Card

I was wondering if there is anything I could do about this. Can I take off the fans attached to these cards and just water cool my system instead? Can the video cards run without fans?

Don't even attempt to remove the fans from your graphics cards if you want them to run again!

Ya that's what I'm afraid of. I guess the only way to get a quieter system would be with new video cards huh?

Another know of a powerful but quiet card then?

you can remove the fans if you put on some better device to cool it, the fans are part of the HSF on the video card, if you have a water cooling system in the computer then you can just buy a VGA water cooling block and replace the HSF assembly on the video card (which includes the fan), you will probably need to get RAM heatsinks if you do this

you might be able to get away with a faneless cooling system for that card, the HSF looks pretty small on it

but don't just remove the fan and hope it work, thats not going to work

Anyone think I'm going to have any problems replacing the stock fans on my Video Cards with two fanless VGA Coolers ?

As long as I have room for it I don't know what else to check for. Also I don't have any tools to track the temperature.

You will need a *LOT* of airflow in order to use those, I highly doubt that with a SLI setup it would be possible to achive the needed airflow for both cards, one maybe, but not both, so that would just result in burning out the card.

I am sure there are other suppliers but you might consider something like the following:

yea, that should be fine, and you can probably have it in "Silent mode" most of the time as some other people say it can take a 7800

Thanks Everyone!

I installed them and I didn't blow up my computer. My computer is now much quieter

I don't have anything to measure my video card temps but I've been playing Battlefield 2 on all high settings (which I would imagine is quite a load on the video cards) and haven't had any trouble.

Anyone have any advice for some good hardware to measure temps? Without doing any research I'm just wondering if I can plant some sensors and just monitor it from something that's housed in a drive case.

a PTC or a NTC with a good multimeter can be used for testing purposes.

for more permanent solutions, you would need to go in for 4to20 sensors and their associated circuitries

Ark!
