Prescott 3.4 70 celcius IDLE!!!!!
ok. just got my new computer today... I got:
Asus P5AD2 PREMIUM mobo
1gb PC 4300
Sapphire ATI X800 XT
120mm fan in the back (blow out)
80mm in the front (blow in)
and my bios is all stock exept the plug and play OS is on.
My temps with ASUS probe are appx 65-70 celcius on IDLE! I got some arctic silver on there... it's stock heatsink but jesus!!! Should I try to updathe the bios? would it make a difference? please help.

Well those temps are always off, could be +- 10 if not more. The prescotts do run relaly hot, i wouldn't worry though. If its not throttling teh cpu your fine.

Also if it helps. I can touch the heat sink. which is colder to the touch than my Prescott 2.8... anyone have any ideas? Could a bios flash do the trick? help is greatly apreciated!

generally if the Heatsink is cool to touch, its because the heat isnt dispersing onto it, did you put the right amount of Artcis silver 5 on? Maybe a better HSF thats propery lapped on bottom would do the trick..
You can download MBM5 and see the cpu temps

mbm5 gets its reading from the Asus mobo, the temps will be the same, whats the point?
