Exclamation CPU Temp WAY to high.

Hey people, my first post on this forum

I recently built my FIRST pc yesterday. (2gb RAM, 520W PSU, !60gb SATA Harddrive) and I have problems with my CPU overheating. I have managed to get Vista on it and my cpu temperature varies between 41C and 71C! My CPU is an Intel CEL 1.6Ghz Dual Core and before people ask, I have a heatsink and fan and the thermal paste is there. I do not have a case fan yet, only the PSU and CPU fan. Would this cause the problem?

    Thanks,

    Tj

Put a case fan in what are you waiting for?

I have my suspicion that your heat sink is not mounted right though.

    41C is normal. 71C is a bit warm ...

I have ordered 2 of ebuyers Extra Value 92mm Internal Cooling Fan In Black - 4pin Molex Connection and a Extra Value Pst700-it1 Thermal Compound Silver Grease Injection Tube I think this should do it. My CPU at the moment is 55C with the case of and a big 10 inch fan blowing into it.

Did you put too much thermal grease on the CPU? You only want a very very thin layer.

The thermal grease was already on there when I brought it. So blame intel is its thermal grease.

    Cool

Pick yourself up some Arctic Silver 5 thermal paste. It will make a big difference.

If your CPU temp is 71...id hate to see your core temps.

Under full load, with air cooling.

    My CPU is at 39*C.

My Core temps are: 48, 48, 43 (dont know what the 4th core is)

Before i got my new heatsink, id see 50* CPU temps, but 80*C core temps. Which is..too hot.
