Replacement CPU fan specs-must they match?
My Compaq CPU fan failed after VERY noisily motorboating for a few days, so I went to Micro Center and found an exact fit with the same 4-pin molex (JWT 2543) plug and snapped it in (after vacuuming everything out) and now the PC works again. Problem is, the OEM fan runs up to 64cfm @ 4600 RPM, but the aftermarket fan spec is up to 40 cfm @ 3000 RPM. The fan I bought was $10.69 but Compaq's reseller wants $69.00 inc shipping for the OEM fan. Should I worry about the difference in specs and ante up for the "right" fan? Or will the aftermarket fan keep my PC happy enough?

Assuming the OEM fan you bought is designed for the correct socket you should be fine.

Everything seems to be behaving perfectly. This fan was the ONLY one at Micro Center with the exactly indentical modular connector as the original. Thanks for the POM!
