14-bit processor, and non-intel cpu's

Hey guys.
I've been reading up on the new Canon Digital Rebel XSI, and apparently it uses a 14-bit processor. That seems really odd to me, since a byte is 8 bit's, wouldn't it be more effective to use a 16-bit processor? Does anybody know anything about this?

And does anybody know where I can learn more about other processors other than Intel?

Thanks.

They're talking about the analog/digital converter (the wiki actually cites a 14 bit example) ... once you grok that then this should become pretty clear. Its not a 14 bit CPU ... there are dedicated microprocessors involved to be sure but you're not going to see a 14 bit operating system for any such thing.

By the way I have a digital rebel XTi ... great camera.
