AMD Athlon Socket 940 or Socket 939??
Good day everyone,
I was recently surfing the internet, and @ newegg in particular, and I noticed that they have 2 different types of AMD athlon 64 FX-53.
One with Socket 940.
The other with Socket 939.
and they were all identical in their Specifications, but not the price. The socket 393 is ~ 150$ higher Although is has fewer pins!! . Can anyone tell me why?
and does the soket 393 require a different mobo than the 940?

Ok, first off, yes they both use different motherboards. So, you can't use a 939 CPU in a 940 motherboard and vice versa.
Now for the main differences.
Socket 940 has an effective data rate up to 12.8 GB/s.
Socket 939 is up to 14.4 GB/s.
Socket 940 requires the use of registered RAM. Usually more expensive.
Socket 939 does not.
Socket 939 is best for: gaming systems and just a general PC.
Socket 940 is best for: servers, workstations or if you are going to end up with a lot of RAM (3GBs+).
