Help with overclocking Soyo Dragon 2 platinum

I switched from an ASUS P4G800 which i overclocked my 2.6 CPU to 3.0 to a SOYO Dragon 2 Platinum (mainly because my bf fried the firewire in it) and am having a lot of trouble overclocking now. Even just setting Turbo in BIOS causes an error. I have added better RAM hoping that would fix the problem, but it hasnt. Does anyone know why I could be having this problem? Or is it something about the motherboard, that wont let me overclock?

What error? That mobo is has a lot of overclocking options in the bios, you shouldn't have any problems. http://www.extrememhz.com/dragon2-p3.shtml has info on how to do it.

Meaning it won't boot? What exactly are you doing when you "overclock"? Did you look at my link?

I just upgraded my system with a Soto Dragon 2 MB this weekend (2.8 P4, 800 FSB). Every attempt I've made to overclock has had the same results. There are many options in the BIOS but no matter what I do once I change the setting from "AUTO" to "MANUAL" the computer won't boot (No video or anything - Just the power light). I have to clear the BIOS to get it to reboot.

Some help

I was able to get my soyo overclocked to 3.01Ghz with 859FSB from 2.8Ghz 800FSB stabily. I'm gonna see if i can go higher.

Here's my reccomendation for overclocking the Soyo Dragon 2 Platinum:
Get the latest bios
Set your computer performance to TURBO
Set your CPU frequency to what it should be first (for a 2.8Ghz with 800FSB and HT it is 200Mhz)
Increment your frequency by 10
Set your AGP/PCI ratio to 66/33
Keep the ram ratio at auto
save your settings and reboot
(you may need to set your voltage to your processor or ram to a higher setting but check to see the voltage before doing so. if you notice that the voltage is getting a bit low increase it to the next setting)

Every time my computer successfully booted i ran stress tests and benchmarks to test stability. If it was stable i recorded all my settings in the bios and incremented the frequency another 10Mhz and tried it again. I find that going in 10Mhz increments with the ram ratio set to auto makes overclocking this motherboard a lot easier.

I hope this helps ya!

Thanks for the reply!

I got pertty much the same results the day after I posted the first message. The major mistake I was making was leaving the CPU freq set to the default of 100 Mhz after changing the CPU freq setting from AUTO to MANUAL.

I've been able to get stable results at 3.22 GHz with a 2.8 Ghz (800 FSB) Processor but I don't have any stress of benchmark tools for checking my system - Any recommendations?

3dmark has some cool looking graphic benchmarks, SiSoft Sandra is a good full system info/benchmarking program. Glad you got it working.
