Installation of a faster CPU, IBM NetVista

May be I’m in the wrong forum.
My son’s PC is an IBM 67922HU with a Pentium 4 1.8Ghz 400 CPU.
- Is it possible to replace this P4 with a 2.4 or 2.6 or 2.8Ghz 400? IBM cannot confirm this and suggested to consult experts on this subject. So here I am!
- Is it possible to replace this P4 with a 2.8Ghz 533? I notice they are cheaper. Probably not as the Bus speed on the motherboard is 400. I would appreciate your confirmation of this nevertheless.

Most motherboards with a 400 bus will support 533. You should be able to up the speed to a 2.0 or 2.4Ghz processor if not a little further

if your board maxes out at 400, then putting in a CPU meant for 533 will actually be slower (but work) as the 533 bus will run at 400 making the core run at (400/533)*(Core Speed)

if however you board can work with a 533 CPU then it will be a lot faster as it will have both a faster bus and core

i kinda doubt that your computer will take a 533 bus CPU though, most computers built by big companies don't have parts that that will work faster then needed, but IBM is definitely the type that would do that if anyone would so i may be wrong

either way it will work
