Overclock with Biostar M7NCD and Athlon XP 2600+

Hi everyone, I'm very new to the overclocking subject and I would like to perform one to a machine with:

MoBo: Biostar M7NCD up to 400Mhz
CPU: Athlon XP 2600+ 512k L2 333Mhz
RAM: PC2700 256MB

Please, if somenone have the same equipment I would appreciate your help to do an overclock to this machine.

Or if you just know how even you have another equipment your help is welcome too.

well first thing you need to be aware of , heat, what is the normal operating temp of the cpu now, if it is within 25-39 degrees C you can overclock, far as i would go would be up to 47 during heavy load. overclocking voids any warrenty you may have on you motherboard, processor and ram. or manufacturer's warrenty for the whole pc. depending on your board you may have dip switches on the board which can be set to the desired speed, or it could just be you need to increase the front side bus speed in the bios. some involve different methods. you should have the motherboard manual, if not download it from the biostar site. if you mess around with the settings and the system does not boot, use the cmos jumper to clear the settings and start again. i dont really like to reply to overclocking post because it is not a problem that needs to be fixed, but it is a problem in the making. but you will probably do it anyway so.....make sure you have plenty cooling fans, read the motherboard manual, and use your best judgment. if done wrong this could cost you.

I have the exact same setup with 512MB pc3200 ram. The only settings available in the bios are fsb and a load of memory tweaks. No vcore, multiplier or ratios even though the board claims to have them. I've read many posts about the processors stability when overclocking but my board wont let me go past 179mhz fsb even though i know the processor will go well past that. Is there any way to enable the bios settings for multiplier and vcore on this board. i have the latest bios but no change. Colling is not a problem as i have more than adequate processor fan and 3 system fans. Can anyone help?!

I have a Barton 2500 with 512 MB of 2700 memory on the M7NCD. I changed the FSB to 200 mhz. I was running about 50 idle and 70 under load (Prime 95). Prime 95 is some sort of program that searches for the largest prime number or something like that. It is useful because it stressed your system with 100% CPU utilization. And if you get an error message it's your PC's fault. That's what I was told, I can't swear it's true.

I changed to a better case with more air circulation and my temps dropped down to 34 idle and 50 under load. I added another fan to my case but that doesn't seem to help much and now I'm getting Prime 95 errors.

My next plan is to change to a Volcano 11+ CPU cooler with Arctic Silver 5 and see what that does.

I think the software on the Mobo CD will allow you to change the core voltage but I can't get it installed. I keep getting an error message that says I need to install the driver first. Hello, I've installed the driver! The WarpSpeeder utility has some inoperable icons that probably allow voltage changes but I can't get them unlocked. I read on another board to try changing the memory to 7/3/3/3 in the BIOS.

True, OC isn't something that needs fixing but it is educational to learn how the different parts of the PC work.

I pushed my FSB to 220 mhz but then it wouldn't boot and I had to reset the CMOS via the jumper.

I've installed the 11+ Volcano along with the Arctic Silver 5. I took one of the pots that came with the Volcano and spliced a the front intake case fan into it. The exhaust fan is temp controlled. It is very cool to hear the Volcano rev up when the CPU gets to 100% utilization. I'm running 34C idle and 42C under full load with the Barton 2500 at 2.2 gigahertz. (11 x 200). Very stable (knock on wood ;-)

I have a simular setup...

MB: Biostar M7NCD up to 400Mhz
CPU: Athlon XP 2600+ 512k L2 (barton)***
RAM: PC3200 512MB
and a volcano 12

I got the fsp up to 332 and the cpu upto 1.9 ghz, the fan turned upto the max kept the temp around 28c. The bios has a setting for 400fsb, but it wont even boot into the bios, so i have to reset the cmos everytime.
I used NVIDIA system untility, and that got things going a little higher, but i can't get the vcore up, the mb came with a crappy warpspeeder program, but all the oc options are locked. I'm stuck here too. Does anyone know if there is a reg hack for something like this??? I'll look around some more and post a solution if i find one.

I just purchased a m7ndc and then started reading up on it (kind of backwards!!). Anyway, found out that it does not have any vcore or multiplier options. The board is missing a nVidia chip that is on the m7ndc pro, which allows the board to perform those functions.
I will also be using a 2600 barton on the board. This 2600 is unlocked and had posted as a 3200 on my abit nf7 (not the "s") with stock vcore. Hopefully this will be the case with the m7ncd. If not, I was considering using the wire trick to set the cpu to 200fsb and a higher vcore. Has anyone tried this yet? I've used the wire trick on other boards and cpus with some success but never on a biostar board.

I've overclocked this CPU via the Bios. Works perfectly for me. Just make sure you have a good cooling system in place, in case it heats up. When you overclock it, monitor the cpu temperature (you can get this through the bios too -- if not, there are third party applications out there that will allow you to see this). If the temp. is going up too much, you could just revert back to the original settings.

i have just bought a athlon amd xp 2600 with a n-vidia biostar mobo.
it runs at a clock speed of 1250 mghrtz and i am very dissapointed with it!!!.
i want to get ir running at its proper speed of 2.13 ghrtz but i dont know how.
i have tried increasing the fsb and i got it up to 164 before my whole comp crashed. at 133 it was ok but sed in bios that it ran at 'athlon 2000+'.
i have also set the jiumper on my motherboardd to the fast version but that does jack all. i have heard ppl talking about ram and i think mine is quite cheap and rubishy it is ddr 256 mgb i dont know any speeds, should i get good ram???

i have a nvidia 6800 gforce, and a biostar m7ncd (regular, not pro or ultra) motherboard. I have been having problems with many of my games recently, with errors saying " the memory could not be read" so i just bought two separate one gig sticks of corsair ram (high quality) and ran mem test on them, which came back with no errors. I have tried changing memory settings to "slow down the memory" in my bios, like raising the cas latency, but it has not helped. i have updated video drivers and reinstalled the games and it has not helped.

My computer restarts randomly, and other games randomly close as well, which leads me to believe its a hardware problem, most likely the memory is not getting enough voltage from the motherboard. The annoying part is, this model of motherboard does not allow you to change voltage in its bios, you have to use a separate program, which does not seem to work for me. If anyone knows how i can get this program, called warpspeeder, to allow me to access the "overvoltage pannel " where one changes the voltage......or has any other suggestions to fix the problem, it would be much appreciated....

btw, i cannot acces the overclock pannel either in the warpspeeder program. I can only access the hardware monitor pannel.

The error message
is often a software problem. What version of windows are you running? Is it fully updated? An exact description of the error, or a screenshot, would also be helpful.

If you are running Windows XP, be sure you turn off "reboot on error" by right clicking "My Computer", choosing "Properties"->Advanced->Startup and Recovery settings->uncheck "automatic restart".
This can help by showing the bluescreen if you are having software problems that crash your computer.

Also be sure to run antivirus and anti-spyware scans, since that can cause random program closures and other strangeness.

I also run virus scans all the time, so i dont think its that. If i had to guess, it might be the fact that im running the same version of windows xp that i started with, two years ago. Do you think reinstalling windows, and totally clearing my harddrive would help to fix the problem?

From looking online, that error seems common with world of warcraft, particularly recently. this link has a few suggestions from blizz about fixing the problem. Do you get the error only when playing wow, or when playing games, or just completely at random?
I assume when you say "same windows xp as 2 years ago", you mean you haven't re-installed windows, but that you have kept up to date with updates, service packs, and the like?
