Overclocking 2.4
I'm wondering is it possible to overclock a pent. 4? The Pent 4 is in a gateway 500s Plus. If possible, how to you do it. I understand the risk of overclocking a computer processor. If you need more info let me know.
Thanks, Farris |

Its possible, you just go into the bios and raise the fsb speed. Lots of resources online, google around a bit. And just to restate for anyone else who reads: Overclocking is dangerous for your computer, almost certainly voids the warranty, and could fry your hardware.

Or if you get one of them trick new fangled MBDs like my Asus P4P800SE you can configure it right from a Windows utility panel. I have my 2.6P4 up +10% so it's effectively a 2.85 which does seem to make a difference in games (especially EA Sports) and highly intensive number crunching musical applications (Reaktor). Since I live in a very unstable environment re: temperature variation (an attic and it gets HOT some days) this is especially handy because on those hot days I can underclock it too. But at +10% the temperature difference seems to be a non-issue. I find when I play MVP Baseball it goes up about 5°C but goes right back down when I stop playing the game.
Although it is notable that this is a computer I built myself. Not a manufacturer's (Gateway). |

Yeah, it seems the bios from lots of manufacturers doesn't have nearly the options of those you get when you buy a board yourself. Temperature-wise, I haven't noticed much of an increase on my 2.4c until i get it close to 3.0, but it stays in acceptable ranges all the way up to 3.4
